Reflection on ICT as Constructive tool

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is an active tool which can empower students to learn by doing. When employed as a tool of constructive learning, ICT allows students to construct their own knowledge rather than being instructed by the teacher. It enhances learning as an active process, which is creative and student-oriented. The application of ICT can facilitate positive learning by allowing students to organize and present their thoughts. For example, mind-mapping tools like Popplet or Coggle allow students to create diagrams showing relationships among different ideas. Presentation tools like PowerPoint and Canva allow students to make slides to outline what they have learned. ICT helps students think logically and express what they know in their own words. ICT makes project work and group learning possible. It is possible for students to research on the internet, work on group projects via Google Docs, and present their research in the form of videos or posters. This makes learning fun and encourages teamwork, problem-solving, and critical thinking. More is learned by students when they are involved in the learning process and not merely sitting and listening. Another benefit of ICT as a helpful tool is that it supports different learning capacities and learning styles. For example, websites like Khan Academy or learning apps give students a chance to exercise and review topics at their own pace. If an individual does not understand a lesson in class, he or she can watch videos or do more exercises on the internet. This allows students to become more confident and independent learners. As a teacher in the future, I believe that ICT must be used to offer a more enriching lesson. However, not all students can have access to good technology or the internet at home. Hence, schools and teachers must look into the aspect of equity and make it possible for all students to use these machines equally. Also, students need to learn to handle technology responsibly and respectfully. In conclusion, ICT as a constructive vehicle of action offers the student a chance to explore, design, and learn more proactively. It makes them more involved in their education and prepares them for the future. Used appropriately, ICT improves learning to be more entertaining, engaging, and effective.
